What to buy for your POS
Updated November 1, 2026 · POS and the phone app
You can start with what you have: any Windows 10 or 11 PC or laptop, or an Android phone. The rest is for a busy counter.
The basics
| What | Why | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| A Windows PC or laptop | Runs the POS | Windows 10 or 11. An old one is fine. |
| A receipt printer | Prints the receipt | 80 mm for a counter, 58 mm if space is tight. USB is simplest. |
For a busier counter
| What | Why | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| A cash drawer | Opens by itself when a sale is paid | Plugs into the receipt printer, not the PC. |
| A barcode scanner | Rings up a product in one beep | USB or wireless; it types like a keyboard, nothing to set up. |
| A label printer | Prints price stickers with barcodes | For products that come without one. |
On a phone instead
The Dukani phone app can be a counter POS too. A small Bluetooth receipt printer (58 mm) prints from it.
If something goes wrong
- The printer doesn't print: check it's switched on and has paper, then print a test from the POS's settings.
- The drawer doesn't open: it opens through the printer, so check the drawer's cable goes into the printer.
- The scanner types into the wrong place: click the POS's search box once, then scan.
